MyMart™

Selling on MyMart™ from your phone

Selling stuff on MyMart™ is simple, whether you list it through your phone or through the website.

MyMart™ accounts

To buy or sell on MyMart™ you need an account. You can either create one when you list your first item or register in advance. Having a MyMart™ account also allows you to create a watchlist of items; a bit like having a favorites list of the things you are most interested in buying.

How to list from a mobile phone

To list something by phone there are three easy steps:

1. Snap it

Take a photo or a video of your item with your mobile phone. Make it as clear and well lit as possible – think what sort of a photo you would want to see if you were going to buy something.

2. Send it.

Send it as a picture message, also know as a photo message or an MMS message, to 60067.

3. Sell it

After a minute or two you will receive a text message. Follow the instructions in this message to list your item. Click the “Go to” or “Follow URL” option and follow the onscreen instructions.

I’m sorry, could you say that in English?

Take a picture

The first step is to take a picture or video of the thing that you want to sell. Then send it to 60067 as a picture message. Your phone should prompt you to send as soon as you take a picture. Picture messages are also called MMS messages, picture messages or media messages. For more information, see our guide to trouble shooting phone problems.

Follow the message

When we get your picture or video we’ll send you a text message containing an url. Your phone will see the url and allow you to follow it. Click the “Go to” or “Follow URL” option (the exact label may vary). Your phone will load our simple form, just follow the instructions.

The message we send you back will be a browser message. This message works in the same way as a text message but it allows you to follow a link to the MyMart™ mobile internet site. It may be stored separately from normal messages, for example in the “Browser messages” folder on your phone, if you need to find it again.

Details for your listing

Title

Choose a title for the item that you are selling. Make sure that your title contains some specific details about your item so that people can easily search for it. For example “30Gb white iPod with cover, 6 months old” is much better than just “iPod”. Titles are limited to 200 characters.

Description

Write a description of your item. There is no limit to how long this can be so be as detailed as you like. Think of the information that you might want if you were buying your item. For example:

  • What size is it? Include measurements.
  • How old is it?
  • What condition is it in? Be truthful, buyers like to know the bad as well as the good!
  • Are there any notable features?
  • Delivery details. Will you post, would you like the buyer to collect?

If you want to make your description look pretty you might like to know that you can use Textile to add formatting. This is a simple way of adding formatting to text. Links are created automatically if you write an url. HTML formatting is not allowed.

Condition

Choose the condition of your item. New items should be brand new and unused, ideally with packaging. Used items may be a little older, but show no serious signs of use. Worn items have external marks and may be getting to that slightly cranky stage of life. Broken items are just that. They may not be completely broken, but their usefulness is noticeably lessened.

Price

The next page allows you to provide a price for your item. Items on MyMart can be sold in an auction or at a fixed price.

An auction lasts 7 days and people place bids in that time, the highest bidder at the end wins. To create an auction you need to specify a minimum price, which is the minimum amount you will accept. Think carefully about how much you want for your item – often items that begin on a lower minimum price sell for more in the end, but there is no guarantee!

A fixed price sale lasts until an item is sold. You choose a price and people will either take it or leave it. Just enter a fixed price and leave minimum price blank.

You may also specify a both a minimum and a fixed price. This creates an auction with the option for eager buyers to snap it the item there and then. The fixed price would be the most you really think the item is worth. Note that the auction may not reach that price and you are obliged to sell to the highest bidder.

Postage

Enter the amount for postage of your item to anywhere in the UK. This helps buyers to see the total cost of your item. If you are not sure how much postage will be, please see the Royal Mail’s price guide for more information.

Category

On the next page you choose a category for your item. The category does not have to be exact, choose the one that is the closest match.
